Two men died after being knocked down by a water tanker near Malir Garrison’s Check Post No-VI on Saturday.

Malir Cantonment police station house officer Faisal Lateef said three men sitting in the back of a Suzuki pick-up fell off when the axle of the van broke near the check post.

He said the water tanker, bearing registration number JV-7299, coming from behind ran them over.

Two men, identified as 50-year-old Qamro and 21-year-old Kamran, died and 21-year-old Inayat suffered injuries in the incident. The casualties were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

District Malir Senior Superintendent of Police Adeel Chandio said the victims were vegetable vendors, and they were carrying vegetables to their outlets from the Super Highway Fruits and Vegetable Market when the tragic incident happened.

He said police arrested the driver of the water tanker and impounded his vehicle. Later, police handed over the bodies of the deceased to their heirs and started an investigation.

Transgender found dead

The body of a 27-year-old transgender was found in an industrial waste drain in Muzaffarabad Colony in Quaidabad.

Quaidabad police station house officer Muhammad Ali Marwat said a resident has informed police about the presence of the body in the drain.

He said a police team reached the site and called rescuers, who fished the corpse out and took it to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a postmortem examination.

Neither any identity paper was found on the deceased nor did anybody arrive either at the police station or at the hospital to claim the body.
