LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Friday dismissed a petition being non-maintainable seeking direction to disqualify former army chief Gen Pervez Musharraf as head of a political party. Justice Shahid Karim ruled that the petition is non-maintainable as neither the petitioner was aggrieved nor did he approach the relevant forum for redress of his grievance. Advocate Muhammad Afaq sought removal of Pervez Musharraf as chief of his political party - All Pakistan Muslim League (APML). Petitioner submitted that Musharraf could not head a political party since he was disqualified to contest 2013 general election. He said that the ECP had disqualified the former military dictator under Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution. He pointed out that the Supreme Court recently ruled in ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s case that a disqualified person could not head a political party and the same ruling applies on Musharraf, who has been heading a political party despite being disqualified. He requested to order the ECP for removing Musharraf from All Pakistan Muslim League president’s slot.
