Safe polio drive

This refers to the news report, ‘471 arrested for refusing anti-polio drops to children’ (March 3). Most of the arrests took place in the suburban areas of the provincial metropolis. It is appalling that 80 percent of polio cases in the world were reported from Pakistan, particularly from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Health should be the top priority of the KP government. The authorities concerned should also consider making the polio vaccination mandatory for the issuance or renewal of necessary documents like CNIC. Moreover, an awareness campaign led by political leaders and religious scholars in the remote areas of the province can make the polio drive more secure.
