Islamabad: The representations with regards to delimitation of constituencies of the National Assembly and four provincial assemblies have crossed 200 mark, as the last date i.e. April 03 for filing of objections draws nearer.
Though, political parties at regional and national level have expressed strong reservations about the delimitation of constituencies carried out by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), it believed, the filing of objections has been below expectations.
So far, the Election Commission has received as many as 217 representations; of these, 115 have been receive from Punjab and Islamabad Capital Territory, 70 from Sindh, 24 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and eight from Balochistan.
Following the making of the draft delimitation public on March 5, the Election Commission has established a representations receiving desk at its secretariat here and continue to receive objections or representations.
Moreover, the Election Commission also formed five teams to receive such complaints and fixed April 3 the last date for filing of objections; this will be followed by hearing to sort out issues pertaining to delimitation of constituencies.
It may be pointed out that bulk of representations have been filed in Punjab: majority of these pertain to Rahim Yar Khan and Kasur; eight against NA-175 and NA-176 and six about proposed maps of Punjab Assembly constituencies.
Again, majority of representations submitted to the Election Commission are about constituencies of the provincial assemblies.
