Khalid urges PHF to withdraw his removal letter
ISLAMABAD: Olympian Khalid Bashir, who was part of the 1994 World Cup winning team, has threatened to take the officials of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to the court if the letter of his removal as federation’s associate secretary is not withdrawn.
In a letter addressed to the PHF official in response to his removal, Khalid said that he was doing his duty only as an official of the PHF.
“I was concerned about the media reports regarding the alleged corruption in the PHF and that was the reason I expressed my concerns during the Congress meeting held in Islamabad on January 4. Instead of coming out with the facts, I was threatened by some officials in front of all the participants.”
Khalid added that he was also concerned over the rapid fall in the international rankings of national hockey team.
“Pakistan have started playing draw against the team like Oman which is ranked 32nd in the world. Japan have beaten Pakistan in the tri-nation final. Never before we have lost or played draw against these minnows. That means our standard is rapidly falling with each passing day.”
He also urged the PHF high-ups to withdraw the letter of his removal failing which he would have no other option but to seek justice from court.Meanwhile, the 30th meeting of the PHF’s Executive Board will be held in Islamabad today (Thursday) to discuss elections, scrutiny of the districts and some other important matters.
