922 wives of bureaucrats dual, foreign nationals

ISLAMABAD: A report submitted by the FIA chief to the Supreme Court, 922 wives of government servants are either dual nationals or foreigners.

A three-member bench of the apex court led by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar is hearing a suo motu case regarding dual nationality. The report reveals that 824 wives have dual nationalities. Of them, 614 officials declared dual nationalities of their wives while 210 concealed.

Ninety-eight wives are foreigners while husbands of 77 declared the nationalities of their wives, 21 remained undeclared. Punjab tops the list of provinces as its officials have highest number of dual national wives, 191, while 17 are foreigners. Sixty-one officials concealed dual nationalities of their wives while nine did not disclose foreign nationalities of their wives.

KP stands at second slot with 43 wives with dual nationalities and six foreigners. Twelve concealed dual nationalities and two foreign. In Balochistan, four wives are dual nationals of whom three were concealed. One wife is foreigner whose nationality was concealed. Sindh is the only province where no official has foreign or dual national wife.

The federal government bureaucracy has 500 wives with dual nationality. Of them, 376 declared dual nationalities while 124 concealed. Foreigner wives are 61 of whom 54 were declared, nine concealed.

According to the report, no official from the National Accountability Bureau, Cabinet Division, Federal Public Service Commission and the Board of Investment has dual or foreign national wife. Wife of a member of the Supreme Court staff is foreign national and the department concerned has been informed about it. Sources say she is wife a judge.
