DAGGAR: A jirga Sunday announced to resolve decades-old dispute between two tribes over ownership of a hilly area in Buner district next week.The elders, including Syed Moambar Bacha, Shamsher Bacha, Anwar Sher, Sher Bahadur and Shakir Bacha, held a jirga at Babajee Kandao to set terms to resolve the decades-long dispute between the people of PK-77 and 78 constituencies.The jirga also constituted a committee comprising Tajoon, Muzammil and Hakim Khan to demarcate the boundary-line next week.The jirga elder convinced both the parties to resolve the dispute among villages of Maskipur, Kankowai, Ambela, Dheri, Cheena and Bar Killay.

Explosive defused

PESHAWAR: The local police on Sunday recovered an improvised explosive device (IED), which was planted in an abandoned house in it could go off. An official said a team of the capital city police, while acting over a tip off, recovered an IED along with detonator and wires from a house in swept a house in Shamshatoo. The bomb disposal unit officials defused the explosive.

FBISE plans reforms in examination system

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has planned structural reforms in its examination system. The board will hire a consultant for the purpose by the quality and cost-based selection method. According to a relevant official, the consultant, who will report to the FBISE chairman, is to devise strategy and make recommendations for improvement and modernisation of the board’s examination system in line with global trends and technological advancements. “Review of our examination system in comparison with other national and international bodies conducting examinations; strengthening of monitoring, control and academic audit of the educational institutions affiliated with us will also be the responsibilities of the consultant to be hired,” he told The News.

Alleged killer of two women held in Lower Dir

TIMERGARA: The police arrested an alleged killer of two women in the limits of Balambat Police Station in Lower Dir district on Sunday, sources said. The sources said the police were informed that the alleged killer of two women was present in Koto village. The police raided the house and arrested the accused identified as Afzal, belonging to Afghanistan, besides seizing a pistol used in the crime. A police official said that the accused killed his wife and the wife of his brother-in-law in the Hajiabad locality over unknown reasons on Saturday night. The police had already registered the case against the accused.

Christians rally in Peshawar condemns Lahore blasts

PESHAWAR: The Christian community in the provincial capital on Sunday staged a protest against the suicide blasts outside two churches in Lahore and demanded protection to their places of worship. The protesters chanted slogans against the government for its failure to provide them protection. They asked the government and law-enforcement agencies to fulfill their responsibilities of protecting the life of citizens. They gathered in front of the Peshawar Press Club to register their protest and express solidarity with the victims of the Lahore blasts. They condemned terrorism and vowed to get united against terrorism. They, however, questioned the government and said why it had failed to control the terrorism and provide security to the minorities and their places of worship. They demanded the culprits behind the attacks on Christians and their places of worship.

Attack on Lahore churches slammed

HYDERABAD: A large number of people belonging to Christian organisations staged a protest to condemn the attack on two churches in Lahore with bomb blasts in which several people were killed and a large number were injured. In Hyderabad, the Christian community in groups took to streets and marked their protest. The protest rallies were taken out from different areas and culminated at the Hyderabad Press Club. The All Pakistan Christian League Sindh General Secretary Maqbool Maseeh Khokhar said the attacks on two churches in Lahore are actually the part of a conspiracy against the Christian community living in different cities and towns in Pakistan. Khokhar demanded arrest of criminals involved in the attack on Lahore churches and security to the Christians so they may live and worship freely.

LGH nurse, husband die in blast

LAHORE: A staff nurse of the Lahore General Hospital (LGH), Ambreen Ubaid, and with her spouse Ubaid died during a deadly suicide attack on a church in Youhanabad on Sunday. However, the couple’s three-year old daughter survived. Ambreen Ubaid had been inducted as a staff nurse on ad hoc basis at LGH on October 4, 2011, but she was later appointed on a contract basis on March 17, 2014, after a nurses’ strike last year. The family went to the church to attend the Sunday prayers and died on the spot as a result of a suicide blast. However, their three-year-old daughter miraculously survived and received minor injuries.

45 held in Haripur search operation

HARIPUR: The police arrested 45 suspected persons in search and strike operation in Ghazi Tehsil of Haripur district on Sunday, said an official. Talking to reporters, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ghazi Circle, Muhammad Ishtiaq, said that search and strike operation was launched in Ghazi Tehsil early in the day.He said that during door-to-door search operation, the police arrested 40 suspected persons having no valid documents while five persons were carrying arms. He said that the detained persons were shifted to the Ghazi Police Station for interrogation.

Three brothers killed in road accident

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Three teenagers were killed in a road accident in the limits of Yarak Police Station on Sunday, official sources said. They said that three brothers identified as Fahim, Nadeem and Waqas were on the way when a passenger bus struck their motorcycle near the Yarak Bridge, killing them on the spot. The bus was on its way to Swat from Karachi. Following the incident, the residents placed the bodies on the road and blocked it for hours. The police registered the case.

Gang of robbers busted in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: The police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers and recovered looted money and valuables from their possession. Police sources said that one Shah Jehan reported to the Motorway Police that a gang of robbers had snatched money from him near the Charsadda Road. A patrolling party of the Motorway Police chased the car in which the robbers were travelling. The police stopped the car near Pirpiai and arrested Muhammad Ismail, Anwar Rashid and Ziaur Rehman. The police recovered Rs127,000 and two passports from them.

Four outlaws held in Hangu

HANGU: The police arrested four outlaws during a search operation and seized arms and narcotics from them in the limits of Thall Police Station on Sunday, official sources said. The sources said that the police launched search operation in Thall tehsil and arrested four outlaws whose identity was not disclosed and recovered Kalashnikov, repeater, pistol, three bottles of liquor and one kilogram of hashish from them.
