CECOS University’s convocation: Higher education govt’s top priority, says governor

PESHAWAR: Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said on Wednesday that education was of high importance on the agenda of the government.

“It is because of this very fact that the higher education has virtually reached the doorsteps of the students,” he said.

He added that knowledge was an irreplaceable asset and the efforts of private sector towards promotion of higher education carried great value.

An official handout said that he was addressing the convocation of CECOS University in Peshawar.

CECOS University President Muhammad Javed, Vice-Chancellor Dr Riaz A Khattak, Consul General of Iran Muhammad Baqir Begi, teachers, parents of the graduating students and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

The governor, who is also the patron of the university, conferred degrees on a total of 400 graduating students of various disciplines and 46 amongst them were given gold medals for their distinctive achievements.

“Your persistence efforts and hard work has finally paid off as you are about to enter a new chapter of your life where challenges and opportunities await you,” the governor said.

He appreciated the services of the university for securing respectable position amongst the top universities of the country particularly in the field of Engineering and Computer Science and Information Technology.

“This is a commendable achievement and we appreciate it,” the governor said. Jhagra said there had been a rapid increase in the number of colleges and universities in recent years and these would definitely play an important role in the progress of the country.
