Punjab capture overall trophy

PESHAWAR: Punjab won the overall trophy of the 4th Inter-Provincial Games with 65 gold medals (total medals 139) here at the Peshawar Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 37 gold (total 120 medals) finished second while Sindh (17 gold medals) got third position. The fair play President Pakistan Olympic Association trophy went to Fata.

In the last day’s events, Balochistan got first position in karate followed by Punjab and Sindh respectively.Sindh grabbed all 16 gold medals in the swimming competitions. Muhammad Asim of KP won two gold, two silver and three bronze medals and declared best swimmer of the games.

In the men’s boxing, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa captured first position with three gold and as many bronze medals. Sindh stood second by winning four silver and three bronze while Punjab with one gold, silver and bronze finished third.

In the men’s boxing, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Eid Ullah won gold medal after knocking down his strong rival from Sindh Sheroz Kachi. Razia Banu of Sindh grabbed gold and Khoula Akhtar of Punjab secured silver medal in the women’s 48-51kg boxing contest.

Punjab claimed five gold medals in the archery event to finish on top. Punjab defeated KP 47-38 in a thrilling kabaddi final to win gold.Punjab crushed KP 7-3 to grab gold medal in the hockey competition. Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed medals the trophies among the winners.

Pakistan Olympic Association President Lt Gen (r) Arif Hasan, Director General Sports Junaid Khan and a large number of spectators were also present on the occasion.

Boxing results: Men’s: 49kg: Eidullah (KP, gold), Sheroz Kachi (Sindh, silver), Muhammad Ishtiaq (Islamabad, bronze), Zafar (Balochistan, bronze).

52kg: Fazalullah (Balochistan, gold), Badshah Khan (Sindh, silver), Naseem (Punjab, bronze), Akbar Khan (KP, bronze).

60kg: Abdul Samad (Balochistan, gold), Muhammad Shoaib (Punjab, silver). Hamza (KP, bronze), Jalil (Sindh, bronze).

64kg: Amir Masood (KP, gold), Fahim Talib (Fata, silver), M Ali (GB, bronze), Hammad (Sindh, bronze).

75kg: Muhammad Imran (Islamabad, gold), Mir Baloch (Sindh, silver), Umair Riaz (AJK, bronze), Afzal Khan (Punjab, bronze).

91kg: Nazrullah Khan (KP, gold), Aitizaz Khalid (Punjab, silver), Muhammad Tahir (Sindh, bronze), Hasnain (GB, bronze).

Plus 91kg: Hafizullah Hamza (Punjab, gold), Mustafa Tareen (Sindh, silver), Amruddin (KP, bronze), Saad Sajjad (Islamabad, bronze).

Women’s: 48-51kg: Razia Banu (Sindh, gold), Khoula Akhtar (Punjab, silver), Saboor Saifullah (Islamabad, bronze), Rabia Batool (Balochistan, bronze).

57-60kg: Rukhsana Perveen (Punjab, gold), Husna Banu (silver), Husna Hashmi (Islamabad, bronze), Aqsa Nawaz (KP, bronze).

69-75kg: Arzoo Ashraf (Punjab, gold), Habiba Fazil (KP, silver), Sara (Sindh, bronze), Sadiqa (Balochistan, bronze).
