‘FC, tribesmen’s cooperation must for peace in tribal areas’
WANA: Inspector General Frontier Corps (IGFC) Maj General Abid Latif on Sunday said that cooperation between FC and tribesmen was a must for maintaining peace in tribal areas.
Talking to shopkeepers during his surprise visit to Rustum Bazaar in Wana, he said that eight checkposts had been removed in South Waziristan and more would be gradually reduced with the improvement in the security situation.
This was the first time that an IGFC visited the bazaar and met with common tribesmen. Tribal elders and shopkeepers garlanded the visiting official. The IGFC told the tribal gathering that the security forces were aware of the problems of the tirbespeople due to the large number of checkposts in Fata.
However, he said, the reduction in checkposts had been started and would continue the process with the passage of time. He said that the continued cooperation between the tribesmen and FC would expedite the reduction of checkposts. The tribal elders thanked the official for his visit to Wana bazaar, saying that it was the first visit from a senior official to the bazaar.
