A passer-by was run over by a dumper truck in Orangi Town on Sunday afternoon. Following the incident, angry protesters set another truck on fire.

Police said the dumper truck, bearing registration number LSC-2504, was speeding when the driver lost control of the vehicle near Tara Palace, Gulshan-e-Bihar, Sector 16, Orangi Town. Thirty-six-year-old Shahid Bakhsh, son of Muhammad Bakhsh, was crushed to death as a result, said the police, adding that the man died on the spot and his body was later taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Police arrested the accused driver, identified as Irfan Hayatullah, from the scene of the accident. Law enforcers also impounded his vehicle. However, angry protesters torched another dumper truck parked near the scene of the accident.

Later, fire engines were called to the site to douse the burning truck. Police have registered a case of the incident and are conducting an investigation.
