Asharf Ghani invites Abbasi to visit Kabul

KABUL: Afghanistan President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani has extended an official invitation to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to visit Afghanistan in a bid to help kick start the government-to-government talks for reconciliation.

In a tweet on social media, he said that the invitation would initiate state-to-state comprehensive dialogue between the two countries. Ghani tweeted: “Today, I received Pakistani NSA at Dilkusha palace. As a follow-up to Kabul Process, I have extended an official invitation to Pakistani prime minister to visit Afghanistan. This is to initiate state-to-state comprehensive dialogue.”

Meanwhile, the office of the President, ARG Palace, said President Ghani extended Kabul’s invitation to Pakistani prime minister during his meeting with Pakistan’s National Security Adviser Nasser Khan Janjua. The statement further added that President Ghani discussed Kabul’s peace proposal to Taliban for peace talks as well as the proposal offered to Islamabad for reconciliation during the meeting with the Pakistani delegation led by Pakistan’s National Security Adviser Nasser Khan Janjua.

According to ARG Palace, the two sides also discussed the opportunities regarding the regional connectivity, criminal economic activities, terror groups, and the circumstances surrounding the fight against terrorism. The Office of the President said President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani in line with Kabul’s invitation to Taliban and Pakistan for reconciliation offer during the Kabul Summit-II, invited the Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to visit Kabul in a bid to help kick start the government-to-government talks regarding the reconciliation effort.
