Pakistan should consider Sami: Jones
SHARJAH: Mohammad Sami is 37 years old and last played for Pakistan back in 2016. He is unlikely to get an international recall but Dean Jones believes Pakistan should give the fast bowler another chance.
“He (Sami) still has a chance to do something for Pakistan in the future, and I believe that. He always plays well for us. He is an amazing athlete who bowls 140-145 in this age,” said Jones, who is coach of Islamabad United.
Sami is one of the reasons why Islamabad finished the group stage of HBL Pakistan Super League as the top team. He has taken nine wickets off 10 PSL matches with the economy rate of 6.92 for United.
Sami was rested for Islamabad’s dead rubber against Karachi Kings. Jones said that his team was saving Sami for the big games ahead.
“We eased him off tonight for the big push,” he said.
Islamabad will be meeting Kings again in the Dubai Qualifier on Sunday night with the winner going directly to Karachi for the March 25 final.
