DUBAI: Hasan Khan, the teenager who captained Pakistan at this year’s ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand, has been slowly knocking at the doors of international cricket because of his prowess as a left-arm spinner.

But it was because of his ability to hit a big shot when his team needed it most which helped him to be heard on Wednesday night here at the Dubai International Stadium. The lanky youngster pulled Kieron Pollard over midwicket for a six on the penultimate ball of the HBL Pakistan Super League to guide Quetta Gladiators to an exciting victory over Multan Sultans.

Hasan sprinted towards the dugout after hitting the winning shot and found himself straight into the arms of West Indian legend Sir Vivian Richards. Sir Viv gave him a bear hug and later Hasan said that it was one of the most memorable moments of his life.

“It was a great feeling. He (Richards) came and hugged me. There could be nothing better than this,” said Hasan. It was also the day when Richards celebrated his 66th birthday and Hasan said that he was pleased to hand him a perfect present in the form of a much-needed win.

When asked whether he was nervous walking into the field with Quetta in trouble, Hasan said: Not really. Yes there were some nerves but I had confidence in myself. I know there weren’t too many runs to get.”

Hasan gave credit to the “legends” In Quetta’s dugout for his good showing.“There are many legends in the dugout. They give me a lot of confidence. We will try to give our best and continue winning.“PSL is a big platform for the youngsters to showcase their talent. I’m thankful to Allah for letting me give success to my team in this important match.”
