LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan on Saturday said the Supreme Court judges and their verdicts were respectable, but the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz could not show blind faith in them.

Talking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly after the victory of the PML-N in Senate polls from Punjab, he said the victory of PML-N backed candidates in the Senate polls was the defeat of undemocratic forces. He said a message loud and clear had been conveyed to the forces destabilising the government that Nawaz Sharif couldn’t be minus, as he was the leader of entire nation.

He said despite the removal of the PML-N symbol, the party MPAs voted in the candidates, fielded by Nawaz Sharif and their victory reflected the voice of nation couldn’t be suppressed. He said the PML-N believed in sanctity of vote and the future of Pakistan lied in the supremacy of law, Constitution and democracy. He said by the grace of Allah, the PML-N was the single largest party in the Senate now. He said regarding the slot of Senate chairman, a decision would be made through thorough consultations.

The law minister said the PML-N had won the polls on the basis of its strength, and not through horse-trading. He said the PML-N MPAs didn’t vote in favour of Chaudhry Sarwar, rather his victory was result of support by a few independents and Q-League. He also congratulated all the elected members of the Senate.

Responding to a question that why committed party workers were ignored during the Senate polls, Rana Sana dispelled the impression and said Nawaz Sharif always showed great respect to party loyalists.

Citing the example of Rana Maqbool, he said the former IGP Sindh had faced atrocities at the hands of the Musharraf government after the Oct-12, 1999 episode. He said he was also forced to become an approver against Nawaz Sharif in that era, but he had refused.
