Sindh Law and Prisons Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has issued orders to suspend the assistant jail superintendent of the Landhi Jail, Imran Ali Gopang, on the issue of the death of an inmate, identified as Arif Essa.
A handout issued on Tuesday said that the senior Landhi Jail official would remain suspended till the completion of an inquiry into the matter. The deputy inspector general of jails, Qazi Nazeer, will be heading the investigation ordered into the death of the inmate allegedly due to torture by jail officials.
The handout quoted the provincial law and prisons minister as saying that justice would surely be done to the aggrieved family members of the deceased inmate. He said that the jail administration could not be given permission at any cost to torture on prison inmates.
