Infant formula regulations enforced

LAHORE : The Punjab Food Authority Infant Formula Marketing Regulation 2017 was promulgated throughout the Punjab to control the issues about infant formula on Friday.

According to a handout issued here on Saturday, PFA will not give more space to infant formula manufactures, distributors and other business operators to play with the lives of innocent children.

According to the regulation, any company cannot sale and promote their products of infant formula on the premises of any hospital and maternity clinic even its surrounding area. There is a complete ban on its promotion. Medical stores will provide infant formula products only on the prescription of a doctor, and the sellers will also fix label in a shop stating “Infant formula is not a substitute of mother milk.” The companies will be bound to label “It is not a substitute of mother milk” on 15 percent area of the container of the product according to the Punjab Pure Food Regulation 2017. PFA teams have authority to lodge FIRs against the violators under the regulation. The companies will list the ingredients on their products. The formula should be labelled as Halal product. The sale of infant formula will be banned at grocery and general stores after two months. PFA Director General Noor ul Amin said that the objective behind the regulation was to promote the breastfeeding in society and to overcome the food safety issues.

bonus: Employees of Lahore Electricity Supply Company (LESCO) will be paid one-month basic salary as bonus.

The decision was taken on the demand of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union CBA in a meeting held with LESCO Chairman Shaheryar Arshad Chishti and Chief Executive Officer Mujahid Pervaiz Chatha here on Saturday.

Workers Union General Secretary Khurshid Ahmed led the delegation whereas Haji Muhammad Younas Kamboh, Rana Abdul Shakoor, Osama Tariq and Muzaffar Mateen were also present. The delegation assured the management that workers would spare no efforts to raise the productivity of Lesco. The Lesco management and board of directors said they would ensure safe working conditions for the workers.

PhDs: Punjab University (PU) has awarded PhDs to four scholars. Hafiz Ghulam Murtaza Saleem has been awarded a PhD in microbiology, Hammad Tufail Chaudhary in medicine, Kalsoom Bano in economics and Mehwish Khan in biological sciences. 

PR: Minister for Railway Khawaja Saad Rafique instructed all divisional officers to cooperate in restructuring of railway employees from grade 1-16.

Pakistan Railway was facing lack of experienced officers, he said while talking to a two-day Pakistan Conference held at Railway Headquarters.
