KINGSTON: Former South Africa pacer Alfonso Thomas has been appointed as the bowling coach of the Windies men’s team, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced on Tuesday (February 20).
Thomas’s appointment is one of several changes to the support staff, done with an aim to “ensure that the Windies qualify for the ICC World Cup 2019 and defend the ICC Women’s World T20 title,” CWI stated. Thomas, whose international appearance for South Africa is a solitary T20I in 2007, is an experienced cricketer in the Twenty20 circuit with 263 wickets in 225 T20s, having played in the IPL, BBL and BPL. Thomas has also held specialist roles in the UK with Somerset and Kent as well as with franchises in Australia and Bangladesh.
