PESHAWAR: Suspected militants opened fire and hurled hand grenade on a police checkpost on the Ring Road near Canal Road late Tuesday night.
It was learnt that two bike riders attacked the PAF Police Post on the Ring Road-Canal Road intersection with hand grenade and firing. Police personnel deployed at the point, however, retaliated, forcing the attackers to escape.
“At about 9pm, unknown militants tried to attack PAF Police Post, Canal Road. They threw a hand grenade and opened fire. But the police personnel in the post were highly alert, who immediately opened fire due to which the militants fled, leaving behind two unused hand grenades,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Operations, Javed Iqbal told reporters.
He added they police suspect that at least one of the militants got injured. “No casualties or any other damage occurred due to the grenade attack,” said the SSP. He added that search is underway in the area.
