KARACHI: Pakistan’s prolific rider Sabir Ali of WAPDA won gold in the individual time trial of the Inter-Departmental Men’s Road Cycling championship which began at Chak Shehzad in Islamabad on Monday.
Sabir covered the 40km distance in one hour and seven seconds.
He was followed by Ghulam Abbas of Army who inked one hour, two minutes and four seconds of time.
Mohammad Sajid of Army ended with a bronze with a timing of one hour, four minutes and 24 seconds.
Meanwhile, Army lifted the 70km team time trial with one hour, 42 minutes and 31.65 seconds.
WAPDA trailed second with 1:45:31.65 timing, while Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) ended third with 1:49:21.36 timing.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police is the other team featuring in the slots.
Pakistan Cycling Federation’s (PCF) secretary Syed Azhar Ali Shah supervised the first day’s proceedings.
He said Islamabad traffic Police, Islamabad Police and Rescue 1122 were there for smooth conduction of the events.
Azhar added that the closing ceremony will be held on Tuesday (today) at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad.
Earlier, WAPDA won the first National and Inter-Provincial Women Road Cycling Championship in Islamabad by grabbing 68 points. They were followed by Islamabad with 61 points, while Army ended third with 18 points.
German-born Nadine Gill, who represented Islamabad, was declared the best rider of the event.
