Protest against ‘blasphemy’

LAHORE: A large number of locals of Shahdra Town gathered at Shahdra Chowk to protest against an alleged blasphemous act of a Christian over a social media page.

They blocked traffic and chanted slogans against accused Pitras Masih. Police reached the scene, held dialogue with the protesters and registered a case. The protesters demanded hanging of the accused in the public without any delay.

The traffic heading towards Sheikhupura, Muridke and Ravi Road was blocked due to the protest. SP City Ali Raza reached the scene and assured the protesters of justice as per law. Meanwhile, traffic in the provincial metropolis remained almost suspended throughout the day on Monday due to protests in different parts of the City. City Traffic Police failed to maintain the flow of traffic. Commuters remained stuck on main roads for hours.
