Furqan, Hareem clinch table tennis titles

KARACHI: Furqan Patel and Hareem Anwar lifted their respective crowns of the men’s and women’s singles of the 6th Dr Essa Mohammad Ranking Table Tennis tournament which concluded here at the Islamia Club on Saturday.
In the men’s singles final, Furqan stunned top seed Atta Abbas 4-3 with the game score being 7-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 12-14, 11-8. Hareem, who will represent Pakistan in the Commonwealth Games in Australia, prevailed over Atiqa Khan 3-1 to grab the women’s singles crown. The set score was 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 18-16.
Earlier in the men’s singles semi-finals, Atta defeated Arsalaan Alvi 11-9, 11-3, 11-9, 11-4 and Furqan whacked Kaif Raiz 4-2 with the set score being 7-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-13, 11-3, 11-8.
