A fearless activist

While the sudden demise of Asma Jahangir shocked a large number of people, it is unfortunate that Pakistan still has a number of people who didn’t stop from carrying out a malicious campaign against her. On one hand, the entire world paid tribute to this fearless lady while on the other hand some Pakistanis were busy spreading false information and trying to prove her unpatriotic. These are the kind of people who have a limited view of the world and they don’t make an effort to expand their knowledge.

They quickly believe everything that they see on TV or read on the internet and do not make a constructive effort to analyse a situation in a proper manner. Pakistan has a history of mistreating its intellectuals who challenge or question the status quo. Patriotism doesn’t mean closing your eyes to social injustice that is rampant in one’s country. If people are loyal to their country, they must stand with the right. They must vouch for human rights, equal opportunities and justice. We must value and appreciate people like Asma Jahangir – who was a true patriot.
