Pakistan skier Human finishes108th in 15-km cross country event

KARACHI: Pakistani skier Syed Human finished at 108th place out of 119 athletes competed in the 15 kilometre cross country event of the Winter Olympic Games at the Alpensia Sports Park in Pyeongchang, South Korea, on Friday.

The 26-year-old Human covered the distance in 45 minutes and 19.1 seconds.“It was not a bad effort,” Human told ‘The News’ after the event on Friday.“There was also wind for a few minutes and you know the world’s leading athletes were part of the contest. It was a good experience and I will try to improve myself in the discipline,” said Human, the nephew of Olympian Mohammad Karim who is also representing Pakistan in the spectacle.

Dario Cologna of Switzerland clinched gold by clocking 33:43.9, Simen Hegstad Krueger (34.02.2) of Norway finished with silver while Denis Spitsov, an Olympic athlete from Russia, claimed bronze with 34:06.9.

Meanwhile, Karim, who had made his Olympic debut in 2014 in Sochi Games, will compete in giant slalom on Sunday (tomorrow). He will then take part in the slalom on February 22.Two athletes are representing Pakistan in the competitions.
