Animal hormone injections banned across Sindh
The Sindh government has imposed a complete ban on sale, purchase and usage of injections that are used to enhance cattle milk production throughout the province. The ban has been imposed in line with the Supreme Court’s order issued in January this year.
The notification issued by the home secretary to this effect has invoked Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. It reads: “On the recommendation of the livestock and fisheries department, the administrative department has requested for imposing a ban under Section 144 CrpC through the home department across the province for sale/purchase and usage of cattle milk enhancement injections in compliance with the directions of the honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan.”
It mentioned Bovine Somato-Trophine (rBST) as one of the banned drugs. “The Sindh government, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 144 (6) CrPC, do hereby impose a complete ban on sale/purchase and usage of cattle milk injections with immediate effect till further orders.” As per the notification, police have been authorised to register complaints under Section 188 PPC against the violators.
