Tougher Day of Judgment for those dispensing justice: Nawaz

LAHORE: Former prime minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said those entrusted with the sacred duty of dispensing justice would be subjected to a tougher scrutiny in the court of Allah on the Day of Judgment.

Talking to the media outside Allama Raghib Naeemi’s residence, he again stressed on respecting the people’s mandate. “What is a democracy without guaranteeing the sanctity of vote?” he questioned.

The PML-N chief said he would take the issue of respecting the vote to every corner of the country, adding that the country could only progress if it started respecting the mandate of people. He visited the residence of Naeemi, the chief patron of Jamia Naeemia, to condole the death of his mother.

What happened in Lodhran was a pleasant surprise by the grace of Allah Almighty, he said. “I believe that this response by the people of Lodhran is a result of the fact that the people have expressed their anger against violating the sanctity of their vote.” He said, “Our narrative has resonated with the masses because it has hit a nerve. Millions of people of this country are tired of electing their representatives only to watch them being denied through the whim of a few.” Nawaz said he would visit Lodhran to thank the people for their love and expression of support through the power of vote.

“The PML-N’s victory in Lodhran is giving sleepless nights to the rivals,” he said adding the political opponent, after the defeat, should also take into account the kind of politics they had been doing. He said his opponents had nothing but hollow allegations and scornful hate speech against him. “They have spoilt the very moral fibre of the society by practicing and encouraging crass language and rash attitude,” said Nawaz.

He said it was bewildering that those serving the nation by revolutionary development through on infrastructural, economic and policy-based initiatives are disqualified thanks to controversial decisions, while those who couldn’t deliver to the people were given massive concessions in the face of incriminating evidence and confessions.

On the other hand, Maryam Nawaz, describing the decision to disqualify former minister Nawaz on the basis of iqama as the darkest in the judicial history, warned against repeating the “mistake”.

Talking about the chief justice’s remarks if a thief can lead a party, Maryam said read the words and decide whether they were anything but revenge and antipathy. In a series of tweets posted in Urdu, she said the people had rejected the disqualification judgment and repeating the serious mistake would be even a bigger mistake that was going to produce [dire] consequences.

She was responding to a tweet posted by one of his followers who said that Nawaz would be punished again under any iqama-like pretext. In an earlier tweet, Maryam said the filing of supplementary references by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was a proof that nothing had been found against Nawaz.

In a reference to the judges, the PML-N leader in another tweet said the adjudicator would have to give an answer to both Almighty Allah and the people.
