Four killed in rain-related incidents in KP

PESHAWAR: At least four persons were killed and 2 others were injured in rain-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.

In the provincial capital, two persons were killed and another wounded when the roof of a house collapsed in Lal Kurti locality of Cantonment area in the provincial capital early in the morning. Officials of the Rescue 1122 said one Umar and his son Abdul Jamil died while wife of Jamil and his 11-year-old son Nauman were wounded when the roof of their house collapsed. The wounded were shifted to hospital.

Shahid Hussain Yousafzai adds from Timergara: Two women were killed when the roof of a kitchen caved in at Hashim village in the limits of Munda Police Station in Lower Dir late in the night.

Police said the roof of the kitchen of one Muhammad Bacha's house caved in under heavy rain, killing two women identified as Zainab Bibi, wife of Abdar Khan, and Salma Bibi, daughter of Nasib Bacha.

Soon after the incident, the villagers started rescue operation on self-help basis and they recued the two women after hectic efforts. Both the injured women were shifted to a hospital in Munda where they succumbed to their injuries.

District Police Officer (DPO) Nausher Khan and Assistant Commissioner Jandool Noorul Amin visited the affected house soon after the incident. Meanwhile, the Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) issued an advisory for the tourists. They were urged to avoid unnecessary travel to Galiyat due to heavy snowfall.

A spokesman for the GDA said the rescue process of evacuating the stranded people from Galiyat had been completed. No tourist was stranded as of now in the Galiyat areas.

The process of road clearness will begin soon after the snowfall was stopped. The tourists in case of any problem may contact them on phone number 0992-408203. The help desk would continue functional for 24 hours, said the spokesman.
