NAB arrests man for fraud

LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore Friday arrested owner of SZ Securities Private Limited on the charges of his alleged involvement in embezzlement of Rs151.18 million in Stock Exchange investment Scam. The accused was identified as Asif Zahir.

According to a NAB spokesman, the accused owner of M/s SZ Securities (Pvt) Limited had allegedly looted an amount of Rs151.18 million invested by public for the purpose of sale and purchase of shares in Stock Exchange.

He said NAB launched the inquiry against the accused in 2017 and arrested him Friday after collecting evidence against him. It, he added, has also been revealed that the accused has acquired numerous ‘benami’ properties with the amount collected through illegal practices. NAB Lahore would get the physical remand of Asif Zahir after presenting him before Accountability Court on Saturday (today).

land record: Punjab Land Record Authority (PLRA) has centralised the land record data from 151 Arazi Record Centres to its central database.

Central Database of PLRA is situated at Arfa Karim Information Technology Tower. Land record of more than 23 thousand moza (revenue state) in 60 Terabytes of data has been successfully stored in the central database. Previously the data was available only with the Arazi Record Centres. To ensure safety of the record, a backup storage facility has also been established in Islamabad.

Previously the automation and now centralisation of the land record has eliminated the risk of tempering the data. The centralisation not only protects the land record but also protects of right of ownership of the people.

Punjab Land Record Authority Director General Captain (r) Zafar Iqbal said centralisation of the data had secured the land record system. He said modern technology was eliminating the menace of corruption.

chaos: Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, PML-N is fully committed to ridding the country out of crisis.

He said that all resources were being utilised to make the country developed and prosperous. He said that some political elements were conspiring to create chaos in the country but the conscious people would not let the negative agenda succeed.

He expressed these views while talking to representatives of minorities at his camp office on Thursday. The minister said that transparency and high quality completion of development projects was the hallmark of the government and every step had been taken to improve the quality of life of the people.

He added that the four years of PML-N government were full of service to the people. He said that some politicians had no interest in national development and prosperity as they were bent upon spreading anarchy in the country. He said the people of Pakistan had rejected the elements levelling baseless allegations on every occasion.

Cotton cultivation banned till April: Cotton cultivation before 01 April has been banned for which the farmers concerned should be informed, according to provincial agriculture department.

Agriculture (Task Force) Additional Secretary Benish Fatima Friday said researchers were convinced that all residues of the crop that play host to the pest should be burnt by the end of Feb.

She said all stakeholders should cooperate to eradicate Pink Bollworm larva at this stage. She said for credit and acquisition of high quality cotton in future season, cotton calendar import should be ensured. Ginners, factory owners and brick mills should observe all SOP’s for the eradication of cotton waste.

“During the season, Punjab government would provide cotton seed for an estimated area of two lakh acres on subsidised rates,” Benish said and directed agricultural field staff to ensure eradication of cotton wastes.

She said the farmer friendly policies of the government resulted in 3.5% increase in agriculture growth. Similarly, some crops witnessed eight per cent increase in growth last year. Government was aware of issues afflicting the agriculture sector and prosperity of farmers has linked with improved agriculture, she said.
