Process to promote 73 doctors underway

LAHORE: The process is underway to grant promotion to 73 doctors of various categories from grade 18 to 19.

Earlier, a special meeting of Provincial Selection Board II (PSB-II) was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Omer Rasul, which had gaven approval for the promotion of 73 doctors of various categories from grade 18 to 19.

Health Special Secretary Dr Sajid Mehmood Chohan, Additional Secretary Admin Dr Raja Mansoor and other senior officers of other departments concerned attended the meeting.

According to spokesperson for the Health Department, the special meeting of PCB-II was held on the request of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education (SH&ME) Department Secretary Najam Ahmad Shah with a view to promoting doctors of the department expeditiously.

On the direction of Najam Ahmad Shah, the officers concerned of the department prepared working papers of the doctors on priority basis to put them into the meeting due to which holding of PSB-II meeting was materialised.

The meeting gave approval for the promotion of 46 senior dental surgeons as principal dental surgeons in grade 19. Similarly, 12 urologists, eight anaestheticians, two pharmacologists and each from Paeds Nephrology, Paeds Radiology, Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Endocrinology have been promoted as associate professors. A total of 73 doctors of SH&ME department have been recommended for promotion to grade 19 by PCB-II.

Dr Khizer Hayat Gondal from Department of Urology, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, who is being promoted as associate professor of urology, said that the promotion from ad hoc posting to regular cadre would be a great relief for the doctors, who had been awaiting promotion on a regular basis for long.

According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, Prof of ENT Dr Muhammad Mujeeb and Neuro Surgeon Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that it would be the first conference of its kind where the doctors could benefit from the experience of the seniors.

He said two-day pre-conference workshops were also being held on Feb 8 and Feb 9. Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said the credit to hold the conference titled “RHINOCOM 2018” went to Society of Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery. Later, the conferences would be held in other cities of Pakistan.

Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said the conference would be mainly beneficial with regard to the ear, nose and throat diseases and doctors could avail themselves the advance research and education on the topic.
