An unexpected explosion in the city courts’ evidence store (maal khana) caused a great deal of panic among litigants and lawyers on Thursday, however, fortunately no one was hurt.
According to the police, a hand grenade from case properties stored in the evidence garage exploded while the area was being cleaned.
The city courts were cordoned off for the public and bomb disposal squad was called in as a precaution.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in the evidence garage.
Though the investigation officers are directed to defuse any explosive material before storing them as case properties, dangerous items are often kept there without any proper precautions.
