It comprises of a chapter of the PhD thesis of Dr Humayun Huma, who is an educationalist, columnist, critic and playwright. He has authored 10 books while a number of his columns have been published in different dailies and magazines of Urdu and Pashto languages.
Humayun Huma’s PhD thesis deals with the literary contribution of a memorable and historic monthly, ‘Qand’ of NWFP (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) which was submitted to the Pashto Department of the University of Peshawar for the award of a PhD degree. The book covers the literary and journalistic tradition of all journals published from time to time in the province.
To recapture the old scene of the journalistic tradition, the author has gone for back to the past (1854). He concisely discussed all the known journals and periodicals, published till the very advent of Qand.
In the discourse of publication, along with literary journals, a chronology of other journals has been compiled collectively, which will be very beneficial in arriving at literary and journalistic tradition of this province.
