The paramilitary force has claimed to have arrested six suspected criminals, including a member of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), in raids conducted in various parts of the city, a spokesman said on Friday.

In an intelligence-based raid carried out on a compound behind Naseer Square, Sharifabad, Liaquatabad Town, Rangers’ personnel dug up a huge cache of weapons and ammunitions. Among the seized weaponry were five submachine guns, five 30-bore pistols, two 32-bore pistols, a 9mm pistol, four camouflage jackets, 23 magazines of different weapons and more than 1,900 bullets.

The spokesman said the criminals intended to use the weapons to create uncertainty and carry out target killings in the city. During action in New Karachi, Abdul Khalique of the TTP and other banned outfits was arrested for alleged involvement in terrorism cases.

Paramilitary soldiers conducted an operation in Awami Colony and arrested three activists of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi. The suspects, alleged involved in robberies, illegal trade of weapons and other heinous crimes, were identified as Mohammad Waseem alias Lyari, Mohammad Waqas and Shaikh Ghazanfar alias Gulabi.

Two men were caught in raids carried out in New Karachi and Shah Latif Town. Named Usama Shamim alias Shakeel and Anwar, both were said to be involved in smuggling weapons, robberies and street crimes. The Rangers seized weapons and looted items from the possession of the suspects, who were later handed over to police for further legal proceedings.
