Pakistan’s biggest city, Karachi, is facing an acute shortage of water. In almost all localities, taps remain dry from morning to noon. This has disturbed the daily lives of people. Children go to school without having breakfast. People are now buying water for domestic use. Not all families can afford to buy water which is being sold at exorbitant prices. In fact, the families cannot have a sigh of relief once the supply of water is restored. This is because the water that is supplied is unfiltered.
This dirty water is the primary cause of serious water-borne diseases including diarrhoea. Filter plants install across the city are either out of order or in a bad condition. The authorities are requested to look into this matter. It is the responsibility of the Sindh government to ensure that all areas of the city receive uninterrupted supply of clean water.
