Robbery comedy

The news item ‘Karachi bank robbery turns into comedy of errors’ (February 27). The story should have rather been given the headline ‘Tragedy of errors’. It is so strange that the Sindh police and bank authorities have yet to come up with any concrete plans to counter heists despite the recurrence of such incidents.
At least an armed security guard can be positioned inside a bank branch. Emergency sirens connected to nearby police stations can also be installed. The additional security cost would be much less than the stolen money. One wonders when bank managements will wake up to prevent ‘walkover’ opportunities for armed robbers. Perhaps we are a nation who would even risk their lives for petty self-interests, not for money of insignificant others. One wonders if rocket science is required to prevent bank robberies.
