Abbasi for facilitating business through e-Commerce

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has directed to finalise policy framework for providing maximum facilitation and promoting business through e-Commerce facility. He issued the directions while chairing a meeting in Islamabad on e-Commerce policy framework, which is being formulated to promote and facilitate e-Commerce transactions.

Abbasi said e-Commerce gives huge benefits to the economy including generation of jobs, broadening of market access, documentation of the economy and promotion of businesses. He appreciated the efforts of ministry of Commerce, IT and all other concerned departments putting in place a robust mechanism to facilitate e-Commerce in the country. On this occasion, he was given detailed presentation on the proposed policy framework which is being formulated in consultation with the stakeholders. The meeting took place at the Prime Minister Office (PMO) reviewed the efforts for continuation of Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Plus status for Pakistan beyond 2018. Commerce Division briefed the meeting in detail regarding Pakistan’s compliance with the requirements of GSP Plus. It was informed that periodical review report by the government of Pakistan has already been submitted and has been examined by the European Union (EU). Commerce Division further informed that positive outcome is expected after the examination of the periodical review and the GSP Plus status will obtain roll-over for another three years term.
