THE first-ever meeting of the newly established National Curriculum Council (NCC) is scheduled to be held in the federal capital on March 5.
The NCC was recently established to serve as an advisory and consultative national body ‘to steer and guide the development of curriculum’. Some of the functions of the National Curriculum Council include development of national curriculum framework, development of minimum national standards in all subjects, linkages and networking amongst all institutions at national and international level and conduct research in curriculum, teachers’ training and assessment. The NCC members from Punjab are Nawazish Ali of the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board, Nasir Iqbal of the Punjab Examination Commission and curriculum expert Muhammad Nadeem Asghar. Sources privy to the development said the meeting would discuss inclusion of human rights in the curriculum of primary, secondary and higher secondary education, quality standards prepared by provincial education departments and the future roadmap of the council.
