ISLAMABAD: Ignoring allegations of making illegal appointments and breaching seniority, the government has granted six month extension in tenure of Managing Director (MD) ENAR Petrotech Services Sanaullah Shah with immediate effect.

ENAR is state owned enterprise working under State Engineering Corporation (SEC) and Ministry of Industries and Production. The Board of Directors of ENAR Petrotech Services has approved one year extension for the MD but the ministry decided to grant him six months extension with the approval of federal minister for Industries last week. “The summary has been moved with two options either to reject extension of MD ENAR in totality or grant him extension of six months,” official sources confirmed to The News here on Monday.

It was claimed that under the rules of the government which was duly endorsed by the Establishment Division, the ENAR MD post is meant for grade 21 and for such appointment usually requires approval of prime minister of the country. “But the entities or corporations related approvals for appointments can be granted by the minister and rules allow that there is no need of approval of PM on summary for such appointments” said the official sources.

However, copy of inquiry available with The News shows that the ENAR MD had allegedly made appointments by ignoring merit. Earlier, some of his colleagues had also approached Sindh High Court against his appointment.

When contacted to Sanaullah Shah for seeking his comments, he said that his performance was dully acknowledged and praised by National Assembly Standing Committee on Industries as it was among few state owned entities making profits. The paid up capital, he said, had increased manifold during his supervision.

When asked about illegal appointments, he said that they used to hire workforce on the basis of certain projects which was relieved after completion of such projects. He said that he had never made illegal or wrong appointments.
