Youth beaten to death

LAHORE: A 19-year-old youth was beaten to death after a fight broke out between two groups while playing football in the Liaqatabad area on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Dilawar Abbas. The accused identified as Tariq Nawaz, Imtiaz and their accomplices had an exchange of harsh words with Dilawar while playing football and then a fight ensued in which Dilawar was beaten to death. The body has been removed to morgue. 

Two died: Two men were killed in road accidents in different parts of the provincial metropolis on Sunday A 35-year-old man, Arif, was on his way when a rashly-driven car hit and killed him in the Hunjarwal police area. The body has been removed to morgue. In another incident, a youth was killed by a speeding rickshaw in Bhatti Gate area. The victim was identified as Bilal Butt of Sootar Mandi inside Lohari Gate.

Boy burnt: A four-year-old boy died of burns in his house at Shahdra Town on Sunday. The boy, Mujtaba, son of Sajid, was playing in the courtyard of his house when he accidentally fell on a stove, as a result of which, he suffered fatal burns. He was removed to hospital where he succumbed to his burns.

Security: Security in the provincial metropolis was put on high alert on Sunday to thwart any untoward incident. The additional SPs reviewed security arrangements and visited churches and other sensitive buildings in their areas, following the directions of the capital city police officer. The CCPO has appealed to the citizens to extend their full cooperation to police and immediately inform police at Rescue 15 or 8330 about any suspicious activity around them.

road accidents: Total 831 road accidents were reported to the Provincial Monitoring Cell of the Punjab Emergency Service/Rescue 1122 from all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Eight lives were lost and 546 people were badly injured in the road accidents. The injured were removed to hospitals. However, some 277 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were provided with first aid by the emergency medical teams.

Late cop's son: SSP Admin Rana Ayaz Saleem gave away Rs 0.5 million to a son of a deceased Lahore police officer for higher studies. Student Durrab, son of the late Police Inspector Shahid Nadim, has been given the money to continue his higher education in America. SSP Rana Ayaz said that the Lahore police would not leave the children of martyrs, retired officers and officials and those who died in the line of duty alone and would continue providing relief to them.

arrested: Punjab Highway Patrol (PHA) claimed to have arrested 96 criminals, including 31 proclaimed offenders (POs).

Police arrested them and seized 110 kg unhygienic meat, 825 litre alcohol, 13,265 gram charas, eight pistols, two rifles, two guns and 80 bullets. PHP teams also reunited five children; Atif, M Ammar, M Nazaqat, Atta ur Rehman and Ali Hassan, with their parents.
