SC orders no traffic blockade of over two minutes for VIP movement
KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Saturday directed IGP Sindh to ensure minimum traffic blockade of not more than two minutes during the VIP protocol movement in accordance with the rules.
Hearing a human rights case with regard to blockade of roads during the VIP movement, the Supreme Court’s three member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar observed that the right to access of road is a fundamental right of the citizens and no road could be blocked for VIP movement.
IG Sindh A D Khawaja submitted that there is no permanent blockade of roads in the city, and the traffic is only stopped during the movement of the head of the state for a few minutes in accordance with the rules.
The court directed the IG Sindh to ensure that the traffic should be managed during the VIP movement and traffic blockade should not be of more than two minutes. The court observed
that the proceedings will be initiated again in case it is found that the roads have been blocked during the VIP movements for lengthy period.
