The Supreme Court’s monitoring judge for Sindh’s anti-terrorism courts directed the IGP on Saturday to ensure foolproof security for ATC judges.
Presiding over a meeting to review the performance of the ATCs at the apex court’s Karachi registry, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali directed the IGP to provide two elite force policemen to each ATC judge.
The meeting was attended by Sindh High Court and ATC judges, the IGP, the law secretary and an inspection team member.
The participants of the meeting were informed that the ATCs had disposed of 173 cases during January and February.
Jamali expressed his satisfaction over the two-month performance of the ATCs and directed their judges to ensure the statement of every witness produced before the court to testify was recorded.
Jamali also directed the ATC judges to work for extended hours every day to ensure speedy trials.
The ATC judges expressed their concerns about their security and also complained about the delay in cases because of the failure of investigation officers in presenting prosecution witnesses and case-related material. Jamali directed the IGP to ensure foolproof security for the ATC the judges.
