Rs2 bn alleged corruption case: KP NAB initiates probe against Captain Safdar
PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has formally initiated a probe against Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar, Member National Assembly, in a case of corruption of Rs2 billion.
As per the official communiqué, the bureau claimed that the probe was initiated on the directives of NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javaid Iqbal.
It claimed that a complaint was lodged against Captain Muhammad Safdar at the NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by a resident of his National Assembly constituency NA-21 Mansehra in Hazara division.
An official of NAB told The News that due to security and safety of the complainant, his name was not being made public. "The complainant identified massive corruption in funds allocated by the federal government for the developmental schemes in NA-21 Hazara division.
“It is alleged that Rs3 billion were allocated by the federal government for development projects," it said. The statement added that being the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Captain (retd) Safdar had influenced all federal government departments.
"It is further alleged that Captain Safdar, MNA, virtually runs the affairs of departments such as Pak-PWD in his constituency. “Using his influence and in connivance with several officials of Pak-PWD, he not only launched many ghost schemes but also awarded contract to his handpicked cronies and embezzled around Rs2 billion through these hoax and ghost," the NAB statement alleged.
