Unit making ghee, oil from dead animals’ fat sealed at Mozang
Lahore : Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed unit for extracting oil from dead animals' waste and fat, and seized 2400 kg fat during a crackdown on Saturday.
PFA team and watchdogs under the supervision of PFA Director Operations Rafia Haider raided Shahbaz Animal Fat Unit located the densely populated area of Mozang. The PFA director said the operation was done on the directions of PFA Director General Noor ul Amin Mengal after receiving a report about by PFA Vigilance Cell about the unit.
Rafia Haider said the workers at unit were extracting oil from dead animals' fat and preparing ghee and cooking oil from it. She said the cooking oil and the ghee were sold after packing with the names of renowned brands. She told that PFA had confiscated such containers filled with substandard and unhygienic editable oil and ghee. The factory collected chicken offal, filth and animal fat for producing and supplying oil throughout the city. Such oil is dangerous for consumers' health, she added.
Foreign delegates : A delegation of foreign participants in the 114th Advance Railway Course at Walton Academy visited Railways Headquarters where they were briefed on the Pakistan Railways.
Pakistan Railways officers gave briefing to the delegation comprising the railways civil and mechanical engineers from nine countries, Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and Tanzania. They were told about the upgrade of rail tracks and other facilities.
Solidarity Week: Punjab University (PU) students participated in the competitions of national songs, debates and sports organised in connection with the national solidarity week held at Hostel No-19.
The national solidarity week was celebrated in-line with the vision of military and political leadership of the country conveyed to the hostel management by Vice-Chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir. Every activity of the week started with the national anthem and ended with prayers for the national unity. Hall Council Chairman Prof Dr Abid Chaudhry, Warden Prof Dr Saleem Haider and Superintendent Shabbir Sarwar supervised the five-day long activities.
fire: The Punjab Healthcare Commission on Saturday started investigations into a fire incident at Services Hospital. According to a press release, a committee comprising two deputy directors, Dr Muhammad Asghar and Dr Abbas Raza, inspected the premises and collected evidence. The committee will submit report within 48 hours.
