Lalazar is routinely power-less
Rawalpindi : Power breakdown on every second day in certain localities of Lalazar have become anxiety among the citizens and also proving inefficiency of Iesco to provide uninterrupted supply of electricity to its consumers even in winter.
The citizens of Aslam Shaheed Road, Akram Colony, Tulsa Road, Dhok Juma, Shahnawaz Colony, Sher Zaman Colony, Talhi Mori, Ghousia Chowk, Dheri Hassanabad and other localities in Lalazar complained that the electricity failure is occurring in their areas after every second day which is rectified after long hours exceeding more than 12 hours.
In winter and the people have stopped utilisation of fans, ACs, coolers and even powered off their refrigerators, so electricity consumption has fallen considerably since the start of November. However, despite using less electricity, the transformer in their localities blast disconnecting the power supply totally. The recent issue of power failure due to fault in transformer occurred on Saturday, December 23 at about 12.30 noon and the Iesco authorities till the filing of this report have failed to rectify the problem .
Similarly, two days before power breakdown occurred at 12.15 midnight as transformer developed fault but the Iesco rectified the issue after 15 hours forcing the people to spend time without electricity thus affecting all their daily works.
According to the people of these localities this is 6th incident of power breakdown in less than a month because of transformer failure at 12.30 noon.
The people while expressing concern over the frequent power breakdowns in their localities of Lalazar termed it the inefficiency of Iesco authorities to rectify the problem in proper and effective manner. At the same time the people observed that though they are deprived of power facility for long hours in a month including frequent power breakdowns due to faults and load shedding of electricity however, they witness no difference in the use of units noted by the meter readers every month. Despite using less electricity we are forced to pay huge electricity bills which is totally unjust, they said.
The citizens have appealed to the related higher officials including the Power Minister and Iesco Chairman and Chief Executive to take serious notice against the concerned officials of the related sub-station of Iesco for failing to rectify the faults of transformers in proper way and ending frequent power breakdowns in Lalazar and its adjacent areas.
As the SDO Tahir Rasheed was not available in office and even on cellular but on approaching other officials of related sub-station of Iesco in Tariqabad, one of the senior staff member admitted the fact that power breakdowns are occurring in Lalazar areas after every second day due to fault in transformers. He also admitted that the faults is removed after long hours. Giving reason, he said that new transformers are not available to replace with the old transformer which develops fault. Due to non provision of new transformers, repaired ones are installed again which develop fault after some days and this occurs due to overload. He said if new transformers are installed possessing four phase power then the problem of power breakdowns would diminish.
