Subramaniam, Annie set up final in women squash
ISLAMABAD: Hong Kong’s Annie Au and Sivasangari Subramaniam from Malaysia moved into the final of Chief of Air Staff (CAS) International Women Squash Championship following their contrasting victories at the Mushaf Squash Complex Thursday.
While Annie Au had to put in her best efforts to beat Egyptian Rowan Elaraby 13-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-8 in a hard fought four games, Subramaniam won her semi-final easily against Australian Rachael Grinham 11-9, 11-7, 11-5.The Malaysian continued her upsurge with another fantastic performance in the court getting better of Australian in style.
Though Rachael Grinham made all-out effort to snatch at least a game, she was never allowed easy points. After a close first game, Subramaniam dominated the next two winning easily on her way to semis.Earlier, in the first semi-final, Rowan Elaraby snatched extended first game against Annie before the top seed came back strongly to win the next three games.
Annie Au kept up pressure on the Egyptian with some consistent display of forehand shots down the court.Pakistan Squash Federation Senior Vice President Air Marshal Shahid Akhtar Alvi was the chief guest of the match. Former world champion Qamar Zaman also witnessed the match.
During the second semi-final, Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada was the chief guest. Former world champion Jahangir Khan also witnessed the match.
