PU students win contests

SHINING students from various departments of Punjab University have shown outstanding performance in various events organised by different institutions.

The PU students, including Rameesha Khan and Salman Afzal, clinched first position and team trophy in All Pakistan Forman Bilingual Declamation Contest 2017 organised by FCC University Lahore. In the 4th Abdul Sattar Edhi All Pakistan Declamations Contest 2017 organised by University of Lahore PU’s Ismail Sherwani and Hafiz Muhammad Yasir obtained third positions and team trophy in English serious and Urdu humorous declamations, respectively.

In anti-corruption awareness activities organised by National Accountably Bureau (NAB) students including Ali Jaan and Salman Haider got first and second positions, respectively in music while in painting student Khudija Javed clinched first position. DISTINCTION: Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dental College got 97.03 percentage among 39 medical colleges of Punjab in the result of MBBS 1st professional examination held by the University of Health Sciences (UHS).

According to a press release issued on Tuesday, a total of 104 students of SKZMDC had appeared in the examination, out of which 98 students passed the examination while the result of three students would be announced later. (Package-4) at the cost of Rs2.827 billion, construction of bridge over River Chenab at Shahbazpur to connect District Gujrat with District Sialkot in Gujrat (Revised) at the cost of Rs4.965 billion, dualisation of road from National Model School to Faisalabad Road Sharqpur Chowk via Sarwar Shaheed Road Stadium and Qila, Sheikhupura (Revised) at the cost of Rs710.249 million and provision of water supply and sewerage/drainage scheme city Sheikhupura at the cost of Rs450 million.

BOOK LAUNCHED: Punjab University Department of English Language and Literature organised book launch of Rizwan Akhtar’s first collection of poems “Lahore, I am coming”. The event was attended by a number of poets, writers, academicians and students. Dr Shireen Raheem presented an insightful critique on Akhtar’s poetry and talked about how the poet’s past configures in his work. Ms Iffat Saeed delivered an enriching talk that focused on female body as a recurring image in his poems. A westernized musical rendering of Akhtar’s Ghazal by the department’s students added more colour to the session. The panel comprising Chairperson Department of English Dr Amra Raza and Assistant Professor Ms Ayesha Barque held a discussion with the poet on the intricate relationship between language and culture.
