APS martyrs remembered: ‘Education biggest tool to end terrorism’

LAHORE : A ceremony to pay homage to the martyrs of Army Public School (APS) Peshawar was held at Government Maqbool-e-Aam High School, GOR-I, here on Saturday.

Punjab School Education Secretary Dr Allah Bakhsh was the chief guest of the ceremony.

He paid tribute to the parents and family members of APS martyrs and said education was the biggest tool to eradicate ignorance and terrorism from the country. He said the Punjab govt’s “Parho Punjab, Barho Punjab Programme” to promote education was fully operational.

Dr Allah Bakhsh inaugurated early childhood education classroom and library in the school. The library contains 17,000 digital books along with 3,000 printed copies.

He donated computers and books from his personal library to the newly-established library. He along with his wife distributed gifts among the students.

The ceremony was also attended by Headmaster Ghulam Mustafa and other staff of the schools department. Special prayers were offered for the Peshawar martyrs.

LCWU: The Lahore College for Women University vice-chancellor on Saturday announced dedicating the university’s Institute of Education to the late APS Principal Tahira Qazi who was martyred in her struggle to save the lives of her students.

LCWU VC Prof Dr Uzma Quraishi announced this while addressing the last day of three-day International Conference on “Social Sciences and Humanities in the New Millennium: Challenges and Prospects”, organised by Lahore College for Women University and Virtual University at LCWU.

The participants offered Fateha for the souls of martyrs of APS, Peshawar and observed silence for one minute to pay tribute to them.

Prof Dr Uzma Quraishi announced dedicating the university’s Institute of Education to the late APS Principal Tahira Qazi who was martyred in her struggle to save the lives of her students. She said the syndicate would be requested to endorse the decision.

During the conference, scholars of humanities and social sciences recommended various solutions to the existing problems of world.

The said the conference was an opportunity to renew contacts and discuss problems of mutual interest with delegates from different parts of the country and abroad. “Indeed, there is a need for deep understanding of the existing challenges to look for solutions using research tools to deal with emerging social sciences and humanities paradigm shifts," she added.
