‘Govt trying to create society free of human sufferings’
Islamabad: The government is committed to creating a society free of human sufferings and deprivations, said Federal Minister for Human Rights Mumtaz Ahmad Tarar.
"Pakistan’s discourse of human rights is mainly guided by the injunctions of Islam, the Constitution of Pakistan, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international human rights instruments," he told an event at the International Islamic University Auditorium at the Faisal Masjid here.
The minister said the government’s policy framework on human rights envisaged the elimination of injustice and poverty, safeguarding human dignity, establishing rule of law, guaranteeing fundamental rights and freedoms to all without discrimination. He said the ministry had implemented an action plan to improve human rights situation in the country.
"The action plan focuses on bringing structural changes to the current human rights implementation mechanisms through policy and legal reforms, human rights education, awareness, research and communication, establishment and strengthening of the National Human Rights Institutions," he said.
