LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, reacting to the vandalism of lawyers at the Multan’s New Judicial Complex, on Wednesday said what they (government) could do when the state had signed an agreement with those staging a sit-in in Rawalpindi.

“Why the surprise over the protest by lawyers. We will hold dialogue with the lawyers and there is hope that the talks will also lead to some agreement. If it doesn’t happen, then [we] will enter into a deal through a third party,” Rana Sana said in his sarcastic comments while talking to a TV channel. The state has decided that [now] there would be dialogue and agreement, not action, he remarked, adding that the lawyers too had some demands that were not met and that’s why were vandalising [the building].

Rana Sana said anyone could protest to press for accepting their demands because the protesters won’t face any action and an agreement would be signed with them after talks. He noted that protests would be held in the same fashion unless there was a solid policy and added cases on several occasions were binned even after arrests. Rana Sana said the lawyers’ demands were genuine and the protest was held only after these were not addressed. [Keeping in view] the way the demands are got approved nowadays, roads are blocked, sit-ins are staged, things are ransacked, what’s wrong with the lawyers opting for similar course to protest, he remarked. The provincial minister said the attitude being practised currently meant that the demands were accepted no matter those were justified or not.
