LAHORE: Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has closed 40 fake treatment centres in Muzaffargarh district and initiated proceedings against them.

According to a press release issued here on Monday, two teams of Punjab Healthcare Commission visited 115 healthcare establishments of Muzaffargarh district, and allowed 75 to keep on providing healthcare services.

However, these were directed to get licences from the Punjab Healthcare Commission. The remaining 40 were closed down for being fake treatment centres since these were being run by quacks.

The sealed centres were being run by quacks who were posing themselves to be general physicians, while the rest of the sealed centres included six hakeems, five medical stores, two each homeopathic centre and a laboratory, and one each dentist and bone-setter. The sealed businesses were unlawfully working as dental clinics, laboratories and allopathic clinics, and were unqualified to render any kind of medical services.

The spokesperson of the Punjab Healthcare Commission has said the commission would be continuing its anti-quackery campaign across the province, and its teams would be visiting all the districts and tehsils to end quackery in all manifestations.
