Heavy rain causes long tailbacks on many roads

LAHORE: The first rain of December accompanied with westerly winds has significantly brought down the maximum temperature in the provincial capital Monday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

The rain started early morning and continued till night as some localities witnessed heavy rain while some areas witnessed drizzle. However, the rain was recorded in almost every city locality. The rain also slowed down traffic on different major city roads such as The Mall, Jail Road, Canal Bank Road, Ferozpur Road, Multan Road, GT Road, Model Town Link Road, Mughalpura, Cantonment, DHA, Green Town, Township, Sabzazaar, Islampura, Gulberg, Model Town, Faisal Town, Johar Town, Wahdat Colony, Iqbal Town, Garhi Shahu, Railway Station, Landa Bazaar, Walled City localities, Gawalmandi, Nisbat Road, Chauburji, Wapda Town, Muslim Town, Shadman, Ichhra, Anarkali, Saant Nagar and etc.

Rainwater remained stagnant on city roads and Wasa officials were seen busy in clearing rainwater. Met officials said a westerly wave is affecting upper and central parts of the country and may persist in upper parts of the country in next 48 hours.

Met office predicted that rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected at scattered places in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan while at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Fata, Multan, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Sahiwal and Zhob divisions.

Rainfall was recorded at various cities, including Rahimyar Khan 20mm, Khanpur 14mm, Bahawalpur (city13mm, A/P 08mm), Multan 10mm, Shorkot 05mm, Sahiwal 08mm, Okara, Toba Tek Singh 03mm, DG Khan, Jhang, Sialkot(A/P, Cantt) 02mm, Kasur, Bhakkar, Faisalabad, Lahore A/P, Lahore PBO, Kot Addu, Mandi Bahauddin 01mm, Malam Jabba 02mm, Rawalakot, Kotli 02mm, Garhi Dupatta 01mm, Astore 01mm, Larkana 03mm, Dadu, Jacobabad 02mm, Sukkur 01mm, Barkhan 03mm while snowfall was recorded at Malam Jabba. Monday’s minimum temperature was recorded at Quetta, Skardu and Kalat where mercury dropped down to -07°C while in Lahore, maximum temperature came down to 13°C, minimum temperature was 8.3°C and humidity level was 88 percent.
